Bitiron is a synthetically derived thyroid hormone replacement product. Levothyroxine sodium (thyroxine, T4) and riotyronine sodium (triiodothyronine, T3) are composed of a 4:1 weight ratio, and it is thought that serum levels of T4 and T3 are maintained by direct thyroid secretion. Riotrix was developed when it was done. It is now known that the thyroid gland secretes about 10 times more T4 than T3, and that 80% of serum T3 comes from deiodination of T4 in peripheral tissues. Levothyroxine alone is sufficient to maintain serum T4 and T3 levels in most patients, and concomitant hormone replacement therapy generally has no therapeutic effect. In fact, administration of T3 can result in therapeutic T3 levels.

When used (off label) to promote fat loss by bodybuilders and athletes, the typical protocol is slowly to give the body enough time to adapt to changes in thyroid hormone levels. We will increase the dose. People generally start with a low dose of 25 mcg and slowly increase to 50 mcg in a day or two. Final doses usually range from 100 to 150 mcg and rarely exceed 250 mcg. It is important to remember that thyroid medicine is a powerful medicine with a very high potential for side effects. Careful people should be careful not to use excessive amounts of levothyroxine sodium and not continue treatment for more than 8 weeks. Also, it is generally advisable to gradually reduce the Synthroid dose at the end of each cycle. This is usually achieved by reducing the dose by 25 mcg every other day or every three days.
