Albuterol (also known as salbutamol) is used to treat wheezing and shortness of breath caused by breathing problems (asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, etc.). Albuterol belongs to a class of medicines known as bronchodilators. It relaxes the muscles around the airways and opens the airways to make breathing easier. Controlling the symptoms of breathing disorders can reduce the amount of time lost at work or school. This medicine is taken orally and does not work immediately. Do not use for sudden attacks of dyspnea. Your doctor may prescribe a quickrelief inhaler for sudden shortness of breath/asthma attacks while you are on this medication. Always have the quickrelief inhaler with you. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details.

Side Effects
Nervousness,

shaking (tremor),

headache, or

dizziness may occur.

If any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Remember that this medicine was prescribed for you, as your doctor believes that the benefits to you outweigh the risks of side effects. Many people taking this medicine have not experienced any serious side effects.
This medicine can raise your blood pressure. Check your blood pressure regularly and let your doctor know if the result is too high.
Talk to your doctor right away if you have any of the following serious side effects: Fast / throbbing heartbeat.
Get medical help right away if you have any rare but very serious side effects, including: chest pain, irregular heartbeat.
Rarely, this medication has caused severe (rarely fatal), sudden worsening of breathing problems/asthma (paradoxical bronchospasm). If you experience sudden wheezing, get medical help right away.
A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.
